Long-distance parenting rituals that actually stick
ToMyChild Editorial
- distance

Miles do not have to erase everyday love. Small, repeatable rituals beat grand gestures that fizzle after two weeks.
When you cannot tuck them in, ritual becomes the bridge. Choose one or two habits you can keep on hard weeks — not seven that collapse by Thursday.
- A standing Sunday story call (even fifteen minutes).
- A shared “joke of the week” text that never demands a reply.
- A monthly care package with something ordinary: socks, stickers, a postcard from your street.
- Watching the same show asynchronously and chatting about one scene.
Protect the ritual from adult conflict. If a call is blocked, leave a voicemail they can hear later. Consistency teaches: I am still here.
Private timelines — letters, photos, and sealed notes for later — can hold the days they cannot see yet. That is part of why ToMyChild exists.
